Deadly Choices

A Deadly Choice is a healthy choice. The Deadly Choices programs aim to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices for themselves and their families - education around smoking, healthy eating and daily exercise. Deadly Choices also encourages people to access their local Community Controlled Health Service and complete an annual health check. In Aboriginal slang, if something is 'deadly' it is great. As such, a Deadly Choice is a good choice and our community are encouraged to make such choices each day.

Currently Deadly Choices program officers are delivering the following health education programs at Ashmore State School:

  • Deadly Choices Junior Healthy Lifestyle Program (Year 4-6) - a health education program aimed at giving participants the knowledge to make healthy lifestyle choices, whilst supporting participants to be positive role models and mentors for their families, peer group and community by leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Deadly Choices Traditional Indigenous Games Program (Year 1-3) - aims to build on cultural knowledge and create change through positive messages that focus on how we as individuals and communities can make healthy lifestyle choices
