Welcome to Prep at Ashmore State School.
Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation for your child's education. Prep is a full-time program and has a defined curriculum. Children attend Monday to Friday, during our normal school hours 8:50am – 3:00pm.
Children must be 5 years of age by 30th June in the year they enrol.
You can view the Department of Education's online calculator to determine when your child can commence Prep.
Prep Enrolment Process:

- Attend an enrolment interview with our Deputy Principal
- Attend our Orientation morning
Prep Information Sessions
To ensure a smooth transition to Prep we recommend attending our Prep Information Session. The information is aimed at supporting parents and carers, and children are welcome to attend.

Enrolment Application
To ensure a smooth enrolment process and to be eligible for our Pre-Prep Program, please complete and submit an enrolment pack before the end of Term 1 in the year prior to your child commencing Prep. Please refer to the enrolment checklist to ensure that you have submitted a complete application with all supporting documentation.

Please submit your completed enrolment pack either in person at Reception or via email directly to our Enrolments Officer at enrolments@ashmoress.eq.edu.au.
Enrolment Interviews
All enrolling families are required to attend an enrolment interview with Mrs Natasha Parker, our Deputy Principal for Prep – Year 2.
Enrolment interviews will commence in Term 3 and are a friendly and informal opportunity to meet you and your child, share information, answer any questions you may have and learn how we can best support your child in their transition to Prep.
Orientation Morning
To help facilitate a smooth transition to Prep, all enrolled children are invited to attend our Orientation morning. Students will have the opportunity to attend a Prep classroom and participate in school based activities to familiarise themselves with the classroom environment. Our Prep Orientation mornings are usually held in the last week of Term 4.
Opportunities to support your child in their successful transition to school
Shooting Stars Playgroup
All families are invited to accompany their child/ren aged from birth to 5 years, to attend our Shooting Stars Playgroup every Tuesday from 9:00am – 10:30am. Playgroup commences in Week 4 of Term 1 and is facilitated by one of our Senior Experienced Teachers.
Our Shooting Stars Playgroup is located within our school and provides a range of organised activities aligned to the Early Years Learning Framework and aimed at promoting fun and learning, building community connections, enhancing confidence and self-esteem and developing oral language, listening and fine motor skills.
Pre-Prep Program
Our Ashmore State School Pre-Prep Program is facilitated by one of Senior Experienced Teachers and commences in Term 3. Children enrolled in the Pre-Prep Program attend one day a week, during school hours for Semester 2 (20 sessions in total).
Pre-Prep is a fantastic opportunity for children to familiarise themselves with the Ashmore State School environment, build connections and friendships with fellow peers and Teachers, as well as develop their oral language, listening and fine motor skills through.
Vacancies are strictly limited, we recommend registering your interest early in Term 1 of the year prior to your child commencing Prep.
