All students at Ashmore State School have the opportunity to develop their skills according to their aptitude to develop their true potential. It is our jobs as teachers to make sure we facilitate the growth of gifts into talents. It is a teacher’s responsibility to identify these skills and challenge students accordingly to personalise their learning leading to optimal results. It is crucial that those students who have been identified as gifted and talented are given appropriate opportunities to engage, stimulate and develop their potential. It is the classroom teacher’s responsibility to:
- identify the special gifts and talents of students, implement effective learning strategies and provide appropriate resources
- Regularly monitor the performance of students using a range of assessment measures so that assessment informs teaching.
In 2025, Ashmore State School is excited to be facilitating two Enhancement Programs to support the students to extend their skills and knowledge in areas of interest and expertise. In 2025, the programs that will be featured is STEM and Sport (ALF and Touch). There is an expression of interest process included submitting a multimodal for the STEM program and a physical trial for the Sports program.
2025 Sports Enhancement Program
The Sports Enhancement Program will include:
- 30 Year 4, 5 & 6 students for AFL and 36 Year 4, 5 & 6 students for Touch Football who will meet for a 1 hour training session each week (day/s and time TBC).
- A semester-based focus: AFL in Semester One and Touch Football in Semester Two.
- AFL: Ball handling and control, accurate kicking and passing techniques, marking, movement and positioning around the field, game awareness, including reading the play and decision-making under pressure.
- Touch Football: Ball handling and control, accurate passing: including short and long passes, agility and quick directional changes, effective tagging technique, game awareness, including spacing, support play, and tactical movement.
Students interested in the program must participate in a sporting trial to demonstrate their skills, commitment, and sportsmanship. During the trial, they should showcase their abilities, express their goals for growth, and demonstrate how they can positively contribute to the sports culture at Ashmore State School. Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Skill Level: Proficiency in core skills relevant to the sport.
- Commitment: Demonstrated dedication to training, improvement, and participation.
- Sportsmanship: Ability to show respect, teamwork, and positive attitude on and off the field.
- Growth Mindset: Willingness to set goals and embrace challenges to improve.
- Contribution to School Culture: Potential to support and enhance the sports culture at Ashmore State School through leadership, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
2025 STEM Enhancement Program
The STEM Excellence class will include:
- 20 Year 5 and 20 Year 6 students who will meet for 1 hour per week or 2 hours every fortnight (day/s and time TBC).
- A focus on in-depth projects and investigative work designed to enhance students' knowledge and problem-solving skills.
- An emphasis on supporting and advancing STEM within our school community.
To express interest, students must submit a written (max 300 words) or multimodal (max 2 minutes) application detailing why they would like to be considered for the program, what they hope to learn, and how they may value add to STEM at Ashmore State School. Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
- Quality and effort in their expression of interest submission
- Academic achievement in Science and Digital Technologies
- Attendance records
Student Voice
Students from Yr 3 to 6 meet on a regular basis to have input into the good management of the school, the needs of students and the manner in which they can help the school and wider community through fundraising activities and showcasing talents and skills. This particular group of students play a vital role in insuring all students have a voice in Ashmore State School.
