Link It! Update

LINK IT! Literacy, Numeracy, Early Years

LINK IT! ….Term 3, 2016

Programmes: Literacy, Numeracy, Early Years & Tier 3 Intervention
Link It! is a whole school intervention programme which has been developed & employed to respond to the diverse learning needs of all students.  Through the provision of support and extra personnel, Link It! delivers and implements evidence based teaching and learning interventions.  Link It! provides a unique learning opportunity within the school, which aligns to the whole school’s Explicit Improvement Agenda and Pedagogical Framework, the strategy focuses on improving student achievement in literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.

Long term strategic planning, involving a 2 year cycle of the Link It! programme, enables every child the same level of access to support across the school.  Semester 1 sees the NAPLAN year levels 3 & 5 assigned to Literacy (reading), whilst the other year levels 2, 4 & 6 are assigned Numeracy (number).  Semester 2 sees a ‘flip’ of content foci.

Link It! goals- we strive to:
• develop collaborative and productive partnerships with school staff to ensure a cohesive whole school response to diverse learning needs

• work with teachers to develop and effectively implement responses to individual students’ learning needs with a focus on literacy and numeracy

• work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement differentiated and scaffolded teaching based on identified needs of students
The year levels/ focus for each program are as follows:

**Early Years - Prep & Year 1:
Focus: Spelling strategies

**Numeracy – Yrs 2-5
Focus: Number – place value, mental computations; language of math & hands on activities

**Literacy –: Yrs 2- 5
Focus: Reading comprehension; vocabulary; decoding strategies; rich oral language opportunities.

**Tier 3 intervention (any year level): I.C.P. support– as per individual student’s needs

STRUCTURE:

As has been the process in Link It! previously, students are provided explicit instruction via flexible ‘like’ groups with similar identified learning needs. The group descriptors are: Cruisers (extending A), Chillers (extending B), Canons (extending C), Climbers (extending D) and Classics (extending E).  With improvements, there will be student movement in any direction, reflective of their needs.

The Link It! mantra, “Every day, in every way, we will strive to improve!” has been embraced by the whole school team!  Our children are Proud to Shine!
