ICT / Technology
Ashmore’s vision for students, staff and community is to effectively and creatively use a range of multi-media tools to think, learn and apply in ever-expanding ways.
Staff and students are encouraged to use digital cameras, interactive whiteboards, digital projectors, video cameras, robotics and microprocessors. Initiatives undertaken include: designing spreadsheets, web page construction, multi-media PowerPoint creation, claymation and appropriate use of the internet to support teaching and learning.
The computer student ratio is 1:5 with all classroom computers being less than 5 years old. The school has three computer labs as well as multiple PCs in each classroom. All computers in the school are connected to the internet.
Library
The Library is an essential component in the current education of students. Ashmore’s library has its own computer lab as well as an extensive fiction and non-fiction book collection. An up-to-date teacher reference section is also housed in the library and is well used by the staff.
A class work area is available where students can research, work on projects, or simply enjoy reading a good book. A separate Junior-Fiction section is also provided so that younger readers can easily find age appropriate books and read in their own space.
The library is fully air-conditioned and open before school and in both lunch breaks. It is staffed by a full-time Teacher-Librarian and dedicated library-aide.
